SEN support: what works?
SEN Support is provided for pupils with SEND who do not have an EHCP. The DfE commissioned us to investigate what effective SEN Support looks like in schools and colleges.

We were commissioned to develop a detailed understanding of local service provision at each stage in the EHCP process and identify drivers of users’ satisfaction and practical service improvements.
To inform the Government’s review into behaviour and behaviour management in schools we were commissioned to research high-performing schools to identify effective practices. Key features were identified and exemplified in practical case studies.
We were asked to review what helps adult learners develop their transferable skills by the Greater London Authority.
Kent and Medway Councils trialled using Technology Facilitators to assist people to leave hospital and safely return to their own homes and we evaluated their pilot.
Skills for Care asked us to scope the evidence from other sectors to identify approaches that they could utilise/adapt or learn from to boost the sector’s recruitment and retention.
We worked with the Uplift Programme, the National Association for Women in Policing, and the CIPD, to investigate how women officers feel about the police promotion process.
Working with National Numeracy we investigated the links between number confidence and social mobility using a national survey of 1,000 users of the National Numeracy Challenge.
The Mayor of London set up the WIN (Workforce Integration Network) to get more young black men, and others from underrepresented groups, into work. We were commissioned by the Greater London Authority (GLA) to evaluate the programme.
Working with CIPD and LGA we conducted an evidence review, analysed a range of local areas’ practice and interviewed HR leads from across the country to identify what good looks like in effective HR metrics.
