This project, funded by the Nuffield Foundation and in collaboration with NatCen and the University of Newcastle, investigated how children aged 5-11 spent their time outside of school, and the implications for their academic attainment.
It involved analyses of Millennium Cohort Study (MCS) and Growing Up in Scotland data linked to the National Pupil Database to assess how children spent their out-of-school time. Interviews were conducted with parents, children and activity providers, to understand the factors influencing this and how activities might affect children’s learning and development.
